Tokyo Olympic 2020:-

At Tokyo Olympic 2020 Mirabai Chanu won India’s First Medal. she lifts the total weight of 202 kg in the event of weightlifting under the 45 kg category. Mirabai Chanu managed to lift 87 kgs in snatch + 115 kgs in clean and jerk which came to a total of 202 kgs.

This made her in second position by winning the silver medal. At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Mirabai Chanu began with 84 kgs in snatch and she was, later on, successful in lifting 87 kgs of weight, which made her on the safe side. She said in an interview that first, they thought of starting with big weights but at last, thought to start with slightly low. On the other hand, Hou Zinhui from China was successful in lifting the 88 kg in her first attempt and took up to 94 kgs of weight in snatch.

In the second round, the clean and jerk Mirabai Chanu started with lifting 110 kg of weight and she performed a challenge for other weightlifters at the 115 kg mark. Mirabai Chanu was so successful in clean and jerk because she made a world record of 119 kg in clean and jerk at the 2021 Asian Weightlifting Championship. But in the third attempt of 117 kg, she felt short and was unable to lift.

History-Making Moment In Tokyo 2020:

It is a historic moment for Indians because after almost two decades record by Karnam Malleswari is broken. She was the first Indian woman to win the Olympic medal. She won a bronze medal in the women’s 69 kg weight category in the Sydney games. As of now, Mirabai Chanu has a silver medal.

The Manipuri silver medal made India so proud of her. Also, the realization that after Karana Malleswari she is the second weightlifter to achieve a medal in Olympic games.

In an interview, she said ” I would like to thank a billion players of all Indians, who were with me during the journey. I would like to thank my family, especially my mother, for her sacrifices and for believing in me. Also special thanks to our government for supporting me”. She also thanked her coach Vijay sir for making her capable enough to win.

Achievements And Awards:

In September 2018 she was presented with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sporting honour. Ms has received the Padma Shri Award in 2018. She was named 2017 Weightlifter of the year at the Times of India Sports Awards[TOISA]. She has named Best Lifter at the 2013 National Junior Championships in Guwahati, India. In 2020, Tokyo Olympics 2020 she won Silver Medal in Weightlifting.
